To Combat Aumentado's Corruption, Foes Unite in Bohol | Bohol News

A new political movement, Barug Bohol, has been launched in the province of Bohol, with the aim of challenging the ruling coalition and stopping corruption activities perpetrated by Aumentado political dynasty and their group, Abante Bohol.

The movement is led by a group of former governors, including Atty. Arthur Yap, Rene Relampagos, and Atty. Edgar Chatto, who have joined forces with former Tagbilaran City mayor Dan Lim.

Lim, who is also the host of a daily radio program called Barug Bohol, announced the formation of the new movement on October.

He said that the group’s executive director is former Provincial Administrator Alfonso “Ae” Damalerio II.

The launch of Barug Bohol comes after the 2022 elections, which saw the clout of the Padayon Bol-anon coalition diminished.

Lim, who was once an opponent of the three pillars of Padayon Bol-anon, has now joined forces with them to form the new movement.

Lim has denied allegations that he was paid P5 million by Chatto to join the new movement.

He also criticized the current governor, Aris Aumentado, for allegedly not being in charge and for allowing the Provincial Administrator to interfere in governance.

Lim also accused the governor’s wife, Cong. Maria Vanessa Aumentado, of exerting influence over the provincial government.

He promised to reveal more about his decision to run for governor in the next episode of his radio program.

Meanwhile, whistleblower Ronnie Orillosa has expressed skepticism about the possibility of vote buying ceasing to exist in Bohol.

He said that vote buying is a deeply ingrained problem in Philippine politics and that Bohol is no exception.

Orillosa, who was a guest on the Open Forum program on October 21, 2024, said that corruption is a major burden on the country’s growth and development.

He also discussed other forms of corruption, including lack of transparency, and called for greater accountability in government.
